Artist's Comments

I will let ~JadeJenkins' lovely words describe this painting.

For the background I imagine a shabby hotel room - ugly wallpaper, nondescript furniture, something like that. In the centre of the picture is Jonathan, caught in a moment he wouldn't want to be watched - he has lost his composure completely. He is kneeling, clasping with one hand, hm, I don't know - a bedpost, the edge of a desk, something like that - for support. The other hand is buried in his silvery white hair (in a quite violent manner, as if he's tearing at it). He's doubled up with pain.

His clothes are not the elegant costly robes of a king; he isn't king yet. He's wearing leather pants and a white long-sleeved shirt with eyelet embroidery and perhaps frills.

Jonathan is crying. He's crying hard (but quietly - he always cried in this way, the poor boy), his tears flowing over his cheeks, his mouth slightly open, allowing him to breath.

A necklace is wound around Jonathan's fingers (the fingers of the hand buried in his hair), the pendant is dangling in front of his face. It's a small golden cross. Jonathan doesn't look at it. He's staring into nothingness while he's crying.

A little while ago he was praying, but God has never listened to Jonathan. His mother is a Catholic, and for this reason he has tried to reach God every so often. Now he's crying because he feels that there is no salvation for him. God isn't going to help him. No one is.

There's one more thing needed! Jonathan's pupils are wide, but they aren't black - they are a strange luminescent moonlight colour. Jonathan is addicted to a fairy drug, he has to inject himself with the stuff. He uses too much, and he's therefore in pain, but he couldn't stop. You can show the syringe, the ampoule where the drug was in, or Jonathan's bare forearm (with a provisorily tourniquet?) maybe. I don't now what's best ... (It has to be the left arm, though, because he's right hander.) He's not good at shooting up, his skin is black and blue in places.

I love this piece. I think you easily could have fallen into the trap of making the physical shell sullen and crazy inside, but I love the fact that you reversed that. So deep.

Awesome work.

Thank you so much! ^^; Yes, I was concerned about his appearance -- it's so very hard to make someone that emotional and still be artistic about it. :faint: I hoped I'd managed to do that, at least.
