Clarification: I've gotten a lot of confusion as to what the "wish list" means, in the last week. So hopefully this will make it a little easier to understand?

Say you want a boat for the holidays. You write, "Dear Santa, I want a boat."

Someone gets your wish list and sees that you want a boat. They can decide to draw you an illustration of a boat, write you a poem about a boat, tell a story that involves a boat, take a picture of an interesting boat.

The point of the wish list is to interpret someone's real holiday wish in an artistic/creative way. There is no need to buy anyone anything. This isn't about buying presents, it's just about being creative and unique -- giving them something they won't get anywhere else, but involving something they want as well (be it fantasy or reality).

I hope this makes more sense! Remember, you have a week left to send me your list!




Now if you really know me, you know I don't celebrate Christmas. In fact, I usually try to escape that holiday time altogether, in real life, if I can help it. This is partly due to personal beliefs, partly to life circumstances, and partly to my daughter's birthday, which falls on December 24th.

However, I do love the community spirit around deviantArt, and I'd love to give something back to it during the 'seasons.' So I'm going to host a little gift-exchange!

I'm starting early, since we have two actual 'deadlines.' This is going to be a little different than most of the "secret santas" I've seen before.



If you want to participate, here's what you do:

Send me a note with the title "Wish List!"

In your note, put what you really want! Think of this like a kid writing a letter to Santa, and write everything you really want for the holidays. Do NOT request a certain medium, or even a piece of art (unless art is what you really want for Christmas ).

Please don't say "I dunno, whatever." Be specific! This is your real wish list, so you must have an idea of what you want. A private jet? A video game? A winged pony? A roll of toilet paper?

Your gift partner will be chosen randomly. They will get your wish list, and they will choose how to interpret it. They'll be making your gift based on your wish list, and they have free reign to interpret your gift however they want.

Note: You don't have to buy anything for anyone. You'll be making them art (or poetry or prose) based on their real wish list.





November 30th - Make sure I have your Wish List by this date!
December 1st -- You will receive your giftee's Wish List by this date!
January 1st - Finish your gift by this date!


Your identity will be kept secret until you finish your gift.
You will not know who your gift is going to until you finish! All you will get is their wish list.


Bonus +
All entries will get a feature in my journal, and everyone will be revealed at the end!
In addition, I'll choose my two favorite images from each deviant's gallery and feature them for a month.
